Project Details

Sandy Cove is a beautiful beach located between these Lord's Cove and Lawn, along the old, gravel, coastal road.  It has been the site of many, many different activities.  It is probably the best kept secret of the Burin Peninsula.

However, the Sandy Cove Development Committee, along with all residents of the surrounding area, feels that our little secret should be shared with everyone.

The only drawback to visiting Sandy Cove is actually getting there.  The trail is in pretty bad shape and access is limited to trucks or ATVs.  It really is a shame to restrict visitors this way.  So we are doing something about it!!

So our plans are to:

  • fix up the gravel trail leading into Sandy Cove as well as clearing a larger area for parking.
  • make a lookout area where the Manx Shearwater can be viewed in the nearby ecological reserve, the only known nesting area in North America
  • add some picnic tables, fire pits, garbage boxes, etc.
  • erect some information boards and signage along the highway so people don't just drive on through Lord's Cove! :)

It's going to be a lot of work but the view is definitely worth it!!!

We have some ideas for the future, but we're taking things one thing at a time.  If you have any suggestions in what you'd like to see in Sandy Cove in the future, please feel free to share them with us!!  You can either comment below or email us at traceyharnett@hotmail.com
